Portland, Maine- Outfielder Daniel Nava has been assigned to the Double-A Portland Sea Dogs from Single-A Salem. Sea Dogs' outfielder Reid Engel has been placed on the disabled list. Nava will wear uniform number 43.
Nava has appeared in 29 games for the Salem Red Sox this season hitting ,339 (37-for-109) with a home run and 13 RBI. The 26 year-old spent the first two and a half months of the 2009 season on the disabled list. In 2008 with Single-A Lancaster he won the California League batting title hitting .341 (110-for-323) in 85 games for the JetHawks. Nava was signed by the Boston Red Sox as a minor league free agent on January 13, 2008.
Engel is hitting .229 (50-for-214) with three home runs and 21 RBI in 74 games for the Sea Dogs this season. The 22 year-old was drafted by the Red Sox in the fifth round of the 2005 First-Year Player Draft.
The Sea Dogs continue their homestand Tuesday night with a 7:00 PM game against the Altoona Curve. Portland (51-57) is just two games out of the final playoff spot in the Eastern League's Northern Division. The Sea Dogs are looking to qualify for post-season play for the fifth consecutive season. Tickets are available for most 2009 Sea Dogs' home games
