Chesapeake Baysox News Release

Manchester, N.H. - The Baysox were held to a season-low one hit as New Hampshire rolled to a 6-0 win. Right-hander Kenny Rodriguez struck out nine over 7.0 innings of work to earn his second win of the season, while David Cooper and Todd Donovan blasted homers to pace the Fisher Cats offense. Catcher Guillermo Rodriguez had the only hit of the game for the Baysox, going 1-for-3 in his first game since returning from the disabled list.

Kenny Rodriguez issued three free passes in the first four innings, but all of them were erased with the help of three double plays turned by the Fisher Cats defense. After tying a team-record for walks last night, Baysox first baseman Eric Crozier drew walks in each of his first two at-bats, collecting six free passes in a span of seven at-bats.

New Hampshire put up two runs in the first inning and one in the second against right-hander Pedro Beato, making his first start for the Baysox this season. Scott Campbell singled with one out and advanced to second one batter later when Beato committed an error on a pickoff attempt. Cooper followed with his sixth home run of the season, a two-run blast to right field to put New Hampshire on top 2-0. In the second inning, Darin Mastroianni singled and stole second base before scoring on an RBI single by Brian Jeroloman.

Beato would allow another run in the fifth inning on a solo blast by Donovan, who extended the lead to 4-0. The Baysox right-hander departed after 5.0 innings of work, allowing four earned runs on six hits while walking two and striking out three.

Donovan struck again in the seventh inning, drawing a two-out walk and single-handedly started a rally to push another run across. The New Hampshire left fielder stole second base, and Campbell walked to put runners at first and second. Donovan then stole third base, scoring on a throwing error by Rodriguez to give the Fisher Cats a six-run advantage. Donovan finished the night 2-for-3 with a home run, an RBI, two runs scored and a Fisher Cats record four stolen bases.

After second baseman Miguel Abreu's sacrifice bunt attempt turned into a double play in the top of the fourth inning, New Hampshire pitchers combined to set down 14 consecutive Baysox. Danny Figueroa drew a two-out walk in the ninth inning against New Hampshire reliever Zach Dials, but the right-hander retired third baseman Paco Figueroa to end the game.

The two teams close out their series tomorrow, as Baysox RHP Brandon Erbe (2-3, 2.50) takes on Fisher Cats RHP Adrian Martin (2-1, 3.27) at 7:05 p.m.
