New Britain Rock Cats News Release

NEW BRITAIN, CT - The New Britain Rock Cats of the Eastern League made two roster moves late yesterday, with each involving a right-handed Pitcher.

RHP Jay Rainville, a 23-year-old Providence, RI native, has been restored to New Britain's active roster after a three-plus week stint of the Disabled List due to a shoulder strain. The former 1st Round sandwich pick (39th overall) by Minnesota in 2004 out of Bishop Hendricken HS in Warwick, RI, had appeared in 17 games for the 2009 Rock Cats prior to his injury. His 18th appearance of the current season - and 6th of the campaign out of the bullpen - occurred last night when he tossed a scoreless ninth inning in Erie, PA. At the time of his return to active duty, the 6'4"/235-pound Rainville had 3-3 record; his ERA now stands at 5.56.

RHP Alex Burnett, a 22-year-old Anaheim, CA native, has gone on the 7-day Disabled List with a hand injury. Selected by the Twins out of Ocean View High School (Huntington, CA) in the 12th Round of the 2005 Draft, Burnett joined the Double-A classification Rock Cats for the first time on June 3rd of this season. The 6'0"/190-pound reliever has appeared in 29 games for the 2009 Rock Cats, posting a 1-W, 2-L, 2-S mark, and an impressive 1.86 ERA in 38.2 total innings of work.

Both moves were effective yesterday, August 4, 2009.

The New Britain Rock Cats are the Eastern League affiliate of the American League's Minnesota Twins. The Rock Cats have just 17 home games remaining in the 2009 Regular Season at New Britain Stadium. Fans interested in securing tickets to any of these remaining contests may do so by calling the Rock Cats Ticket Office at (860) 224-8383, or by visiting the Stadium Box Office (M-F, 10 AM - 6 PM; Sat 10 AM - 2 PM), or the club's website (www.rockcats.com) for the convenience of on-line procurement.
