Bakersfield Condors News Release
BOISE, Idaho - The Idaho Steelheads scored three times in the first period and never looked back, skating away with a 5-2 win over the Bakersfield Condors in front of 5,223 fans at Qwest Arena Friday night. The Condors remain tied with the Phoenix RoadRunners for the eighth and final playoff spot in the National Conference.
The Steelheads (32-17-9, 73 points) opened up a 3-0 lead in the first frame, despite a 12-7 shot lead for the Condors (17-29-9, 43 points). F Taggart Desmet scored twice, sandwiched around a goal by LW John Lammers for the three-goal advantage. Two of Idaho's goals came on the power play. Bakersfield and Idaho exchanged a pair tallies in the second period. LW Chris Di Ubaldo netted his second of the season at 7:10 and LW Brett Lutes scored his 17th at 15:02. Idaho answered Di Ubaldo's tally with its third power-play goal of the game and responded to Lutes' goal by lighting the lamp for the fifth time overall to maintain its three-goal lead.
Neither team could get on the board in the third period, as the Steelheads earned the 5-2 victory. The Condors lost D Reagan Leslie late in the frame, as he left injured after taking a puck to the chest while blocking a shot.
Notes from The Nest:
F Todd Griffith extended his point streak to four games with an assist tonight. Griffith has 1g-5a during the streak.
