Connecticut Whale News Release
Hartford, March 7, 2007: The Hartford Wolf Pack announced today that the "Tip-A-Player" Dinner and Sports Carnival, held Monday, February 19th, netted a record-breaking $70,000. The fourth annual event featured the team serving nearly 600 guests dinner "on the ice" at the Civic Center as they competed for tips to raise funds for Gaylord Hospital. Over the past four years, the event has raised $179,000 for Gaylord Hospital and with the funds raised by this event, the Wolf Pack Community Foundation has now raised and donated over $1 million for charitable causes in Connecticut since the team moved to Hartford in 1997.
This year's event featured two dinner seatings to accommodate the popularity of the annual fundraiser, with food provided by area restaurants as well as a Sports Carnival in the Exhibition Center, a silent auction, contests and a player competition to see who could raise the most "puck bucks" tips. The "Tip-A-Player" Wolf Pack fundraising champion was goaltender Al Montoya, closely followed by forward Ryan Callahan.
Gaylord Hospital in Wallingford, CT is a 103-year-old long-term acute care hospital specializing in rehabilitation and medically complex patient care. The funds raised at this year's "Tip-A-Player" event will be used to purchase new equipment for both inpatient and outpatient therapies with an emphasis on spinal cord injury patients.
The Hartford Wolf Pack Community Foundation would like to thank all of the generous sponsors of this worthy cause, including presenting sponsor Aetna and gold sponsor SunTrust Mortgage. Special thanks to the Coliseum Club and Billy Grant of Grant's Restaurant and Bricco's in West Hartford as well as Laurie Soteriou, who all worked together to spearhead the effort.
Additional thanks to the following area restaurants who donated delectable appetizers, entrees and deserts: Agave Grill, Bricco's & Grants, Buck's Corner Pizza & Restaurant, The Coliseum Club, Feng Asian Bistro, Formal Indulgence, Koji Yakitori Sake Bar, Little Mark's Big BBQ, Misenplace, Mozzicato DePasquale Bakery, Murphy & Scarletti's, Plan B Burger Bar & Tavern, Tapa's, Vito's By the Park and Wood-n-Tap Bar & Grill.
Additionally, special thanks to: Allan S. Goodman, Coca-Cola, Eastern Bag & Paper Group, Hartford Distributors, ImageFirst, Innovative Inflatables, Minuteman Press, PowerStation and Sysco, all of whom generously donated their products & services to the Tip-A-Player event.
