Zunino Fuels Rainiers To 9-4 Win At Sacramento

TACOMA, Wash. - Mike Zunino's three-hit, four-RBI night powered Tacoma to a 9-4 win over the Sacramento River Cats at Raley Field on Monday night.

Zunino's sacrifice fly in the first inning helped the Rainiers jump out to a quick 3-0 lead. The catcher later chipped in a two-run single en route to Tacoma taking a 6-2 lead in the second, and then belted a solo home run to stretch the Rainiers advantage to five runs in the third.

The third overall pick by Seattle in the 2012 draft, Zunino has now collected eight hits - seven for extra bases - over his first 16 Triple-A at-bats. He leads the league with three home runs and 12 RBI and is slugging 1.375 through four games.

Tacoma improved their team batting average to .341 after combining to collect a season-high 16 hits. Five Rainiers players collected multi-hit efforts, led by Eric Thames who went 4-for-5 with a double to up his average to .550 this season.

Along with Zunino, outfielder Endy Chavez turned in a three-hit effort and reached base six times for Tacoma. Infielders Nate Tenbrink and Carlos Triunfel each contributed a pair of hits.

Reliever Brian Sweeney (1-0) earned the win after holding the River Cats to two hits and struck out one over 2.1 shutout innings. Starter D.J. Mitchell surrendered three runs on three hits, struck two and walked seven through 4.0 innings in his 2013 debut.

The Rainiers (3-2) play the second game of the club's four-game series at Sacramento at 7:05 p.m. tomorrow, April 9. Left-hander Danny Hultzen (1-0, 1.50) is slated to take his second turn in Tacoma's rotation against left-hander Andrew Werner (0-1, 16.62).
