Round Rock Express News Release

ROUND ROCK, Texas - They say one is the loneliest number. For Round Rock Express outfielder Engel Beltre, it's anything but.

Beltre had a stellar offensive season at Double-A Frisco last season, but it was his defensive work that earned him high remarks. He made one error in 320 total chances (.997 fielding percentage) and had 12 outfield assists last season while with the RoughRiders. That defensive effort earned him a Minor League Rawlings Gold Glove (r) at the center field position.

The Rawlings Gold Glove (r) award will be presented to him before Thursday's game against the Iowa Cubs. Minor League Baseball President Pat O'Conner, Rangers Senior Director of Player Development Tim Purpura, Express CEO Reid Ryan and General Manager George King will all be on hand to present the award to Beltre.

Last year signaled the return of Rawlings recognizing Minor League Baseball players for their defensive prowess. Current Washington National Steve Lombardozzi was among the players honored in 2011. The St. Louis-based company named a Minor League all-star fielding team for several years in the 1960s. The honor was known as the Rawlings Silver Glove Award during this time.

The 2012 Rawlings Gold Glove Award recipients at the Minor League Baseball level were selected among qualifying players from the 10 domestic-based, full-season leagues.
