Zephyrs Rally Past Memphis, Win in 11 Innings

MEMPHIS, Tennessee - Gorkys Hernandez ripped a two run single in the eleventh inning to snap a 3-3 tie to give New Orleans a 5-3 win in Memphis over the Redbirds.

The Zephyrs Tom Koehler was outstanding for the Zephyrs pitching six shutout innings allowing five hits in the no decision. The Z's scored a pair of runs in the third inning when Koyie Hill doubled home Hernandez. Ben Lasater RBI scored Ed Lucas and the Z's lead 2-0.

The Zephyrs bullpen allowed three eighth inning runs to Memphis. Jonathan Albaladejo allowed three runs on three hits in one inning of work. Memphis infielder Jermaine Curtis two run single gave the Birds a 3-2 lead.

The Z's rallied in the ninth inning with a Matt Downs double to start the inning. Wilson Valdez moved him over and Kevin Mattison sacrifice fly tied the game.

In the eleventh inning with two outs and nobody on base Mattison struck-out but a wild pitch allowed him to reach first base. Nick Green infield hit put two men on for Hernandez. He singled to right field and the Z's scored a pair runs to take the lead.

Jordan Smith earned the win in relief and Chris Hatcher earned the save his second of the season.

The Z's even the series at one game after coming from behind to defeat Memphis. The Zephyrs record will improve to 3-3 on the season and Memphis is 2-4.

Game Notes - Z's starter Tom Koehler tied Bob Scanlan for fourth place in Zephyrs franchise history with 57 games started. The Zephyrs lead the league turning 11 double-plays.
