Oklahoma City Comets News Release

NASHVILLE - Brandon Laird notched two doubles and drove in three runs, including the go-ahead RBI in the eighth inning, as the Oklahoma City RedHawks (4-2) defeated the Nashville Sounds (3-3), 5-3 before 1,694 at Greer Stadium Tuesday night.

One night after getting shutout, the RedHawks made sure they would not get blanked again right away. Two of the first three batters of the game reached base, and Laird brought them home with a two-run double.

Trevor Crowe added a two-out RBI single in the next inning, giving the RedHawks a 3-0 lead.

Nashville got on the board in the bottom the third when Caleb Gindl hit a solo homer to cut the Oklahoma City lead back to two.

A two-out throwing error by RedHawks third baseman Jimmy Paredes in sixth allowed another run to score for Nashville, getting the Sounds within 3-2.

In the seventh, Nashville scored again after having none on and two outs. Gindl placed a double just fair inside the left field line, and Blake Davis followed with a game-tying single to knot the score at three.

After being held hitless since the third inning, the RedHawks began the eighth with five straight hits to regain the lead. Laird broke the tie with another RBI double, and Jake Elmore immediately followed with an RBI single to make it 5-3.

Nashville brought the tying run to the plate in the ninth inning, but Kevin Chapman got Gindl to weakly ground out and end the game as Chapman earned his first save.

Making his first start of the year for the RedHawks, Ross Seaton turned in a nice outing. He allowed just one run and six hits over five innings, striking out four. Seaton did not allow a walk, and 47 of his 60 pitches were strikes.

Jordan Lyles (1-1) followed Seaton and pitched the next 3.2 frames, allowing two runs (one earned) and five hits with one strikeout.

Nashville reliever Jim Hoey (0-1) picked up the loss. He was charged with one run and two hits in 1.1 innings of work.

The RedHawks and Sounds will meet in the third game of their four-game set Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. Live coverage begins at 6:35 p.m. on AM 1340 "The Game", 1340thegame.com, or through the IHeartRadio mobile app.
