Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

The New Orleans Zephyrs (13-17) scored a run in four of the first five innings and held on for a 5-3 win over the Albuquerque Isotopes (15-16) Sunday afternoon in a Mother's Day matinee at Isotopes Park. Josh Wilson and Joe Dillon hit back-to-back home runs in the sixth inning to spark a late rally for the ‘Topes that fell short.

Solo home runs by Dee Haynes, Brendan Harris, and Rick Short paced the Zephyrs' offense as New Orleans built an early 4-0 off Albuquerque starter Les Walrond (1-1), who suffered his first defeat of the season. A double by Jason Wood and a single by Wilson Delgado put the ‘Topes got on the board in the fifth before Wilson and Dillon hit consecutive homers in the following frame – the first ‘Topes duo to accomplish the feat this season – to chase New Orleans starter Ed Yarnall (2-1) and trim the lead to 4-3.

The Isotopes threatened in the ninth inning with runners on second and third base with one out, but Christopher Schroder struck out pinch-hitter Josh Willingham and Mark Little to end the game and pick up his first save of the year.

In all, Walrond allowed four runs on seven hits in five innings. Yarnall struck out nine Isotopes batters and allowed three runs in five frames. Joe Dillon had three hits for Albuquerque and Wilson had a pair. The ‘Topes left seven runners on base.

The ‘Topes will conclude their four-game series with New Orleans Monday afternoon at 12:05 p.m. at Isotopes Park. The first 2,000 fans through the gate will receive an Isotopes promotional pennant, courtesy of Coca-Cola and Comcast. Hair cuts will also be available on the concourse for $5, courtesy of Supercuts. Right-handed pitcher Peter Bauer (1-3, 7.81) is scheduled to start for Albuquerque against New Orleans righty Brian Powell (0-1, 4.38). Tickets for all ‘Topes games are available at the Isotopes Park Box Office, at local Ticketmaster outlets, Ticketmaster.com, and Ticketmaster by phone at 883-7800.
