Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
The Albuquerque Isotopes (15-15) scored five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to rally past the New Orleans Zephyrs (12-17) in a 7-3 victory Saturday night at Isotopes Park. It was the âTopes' second win in their last three contests and pulled the club back to the .500 mark on the season.
Mark Little, who drove in the Isotopes' first run with a single in the third inning, was hit by a pitch to lead off the eighth with Albuquerque trailing, 3-2. Mike Colangelo moved Little to second base with a sacrifice bunt and Joe Dillon tied the score with an infield single to third before advancing on a throwing error. Josh Willingham followed with an infield single of this own â this time to the shortstop â to give the âTopes their first lead of the contest at 4-3.
Wilson Delgado kept the rally going with a run-scoring double down the left-field line and trotted home on Jason Wood's third home run of the year that capped off the scoring. Brian Corey (2-2) pitched the final 1.2 innings of the game â allowing one hit and striking out one â to pick up the win. Zephyrs reliever Roy Corcoran (2-3) allowed all five eighth-inning runs and recorded just two outs in the defeat.
The Zephyrs took a 2-0 lead in the second inning on an RBI-single by Dan Dement and a throwing error by Albuquerque starter Ariel Prieto on a pick-off attempt. Prieto was forced to leave the game with one out in the fifth inning because of a strained hamstring.
Willingham tied the game at 2-all with a single to left field in the sixth. Willingham, who is riding a four-game hitting streak, has recorded at least one RBI in each of his last four games and in six of his last seven. The Z's took a brief 3-2 lead in the top of the eighth on a wild pitch by Corey.
The âTopes will continue their four-game series with New Orleans Sunday afternoon at 1:35 p.m. in a Mother's Day matinee. The first 2,500 Moms through the gate will received a special Mother's Day Isotopes hat. Left-handed pitcher Les Walrond (1-0, 3.82) is scheduled to start for Albuquerque against New Orleans south paw Ed Yarnall (1-1, 4.82). Tickets for all âTopes games are available at the Isotopes Park Box Office, at local Ticketmaster outlets, Ticketmaster.com, and Ticketmaster by phone at 883-7800.
