South Carolina Stingrays News Release


The Stingrays were doubled-up by the Texas Wildcatters 4-2 last night at the North Charleston Coliseum. Travis Morin scored his league-leading fifth shorthanded goal of the season, while Pierre-Luc O'Brien netted a power play marker in the losing cause. Wheeling, meanwhile, allowed 58 shots in a 5-3 loss in Gwinnett last evening to the Gladiators.

In their only other meeting of the 2007-08 campaign, South Carolina drubbed the Nailers, 6-2, on Oct. 26 in Wheeling ... The Stingrays have lost five of their last seven contests ... South Carolina is 5-1 on Sundays in 07-08 ... Wheeling has won an ECHL-low four road games this season, and own the league's worst road power play (10.5%) and penalty killing (74.8%) units ... Nailers G Martin Houle appeared in one game last season for the Philadelphia Flyers, allowing one goal in two minutes of action ... Slivchenko, who will turn 38 next month, is the ECHL's oldest player ... Wheeling RW Aaron Boogaard, the younger brother of Minnesota Wild enforcer Derek Boogaard, finished fourth in the WHL with 211 penalty minutes in 2005-06 ... Puhalski replaced Glenn Patrick as Nailers head coach on Jan. 2.

6 Degrees of Separation

Stingrays D Grant McNeill skated with the Nailers last season, and played alongside Wheeling's Jeremy Swanson with San Antonio (AHL) and Texas (ECHL) in 2004-05, and with the Florida Everblades in 05-06 ... Nailers D Todd Spencer and South Carolina's Pierre-Luc O'Brien were teammates for four years at Sacred Heart University.
