Lammers Shines Again In Steelheads 3-1 Defeat Of Aces
February 10, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Idaho Steelheads News Release
Anchorage, AK - John Lammers scored twice to give him five goals in the last two games and help the Steelheads top the Aces 3-1 in front of 4,676 fans at Sullivan Arena on Saturday night.
The Steelheads (27-14-7) have now won three straight and six of their last seven overall, while improving to 5-0-2 in the season series against the struggling Aces (21-19-5).
Lammers found the score sheet just 3:11 into the opening period when he snapped a shot through the five-hole of Aces' goaltender Mike Brown (19 saves) for his ninth marker of the campaign. Taggart Desmet grabbed the only assist, his eighth point against the Aces this season, as the Steelheads took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
There were just nine combined shots in the first stanza, with the Steelheads gathering six.
John Snowden increased the visitors lead to 2-0, notching an even-strength tally at 6:30 of the frame. Off an offensive zone draw, Steelheads' center Mike Sullivan won the puck over to Desmet who slipped the disc over to Snowden and he was able to snap a shot past Brown for his second in eight contests with his new club.
Through 40 minutes of play the Aces led in shots 19-10 despite trailing 2-0.
Lammers potted his second of the evening to make it 3-0 at the 7:07 mark of the third period, a power play goal with the assists going to Marty Flichel and Darrell Hay. On the play, Flichel took Hay's pass and fired a one-timer from the blue line that missed the net, but the loose puck caromed off the end boards where Lammers jammed it home for his 10th in 12 games this year.
Bo Cheesman helped the Aces avoid a shutout, netting his 22nd of the season at 14:44 to make it 3-1 and snap Steelheads' goaltender Matt Zaba's (28 saves) bid for a second consecutive blanking. Zaba, who had gone 122:09 without allowing a goal, is now 6-0-0 with the Steelheads.
The final shots favored the Aces 29-22. The Steelheads recorded at least two power play goals for the fifth time in the last seven games, while going a flawless nine-for-nine on the penalty kill to help them to their 11th win in their last 14 road contests.
The Steelheads conclude their five-game road trip with a late afternoon affair versus the Aces on Sunday, February 10. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m. MST. All the action can be heard live on 1350 AM, KTIK "The Ticket" or via the B2 Networks. Don't forget, Steelheads' single-game tickets can be purchased via www.idahosteelheads.com (using the print-at-home feature), by calling 331-TIXS or from the Qwest Arena box office.
