Inferno Over Gladiators 4-3 in Shootout

DULUTH, G.A. (February 10, 2008) - The Columbia Inferno defeated the Gwinnett Gladiators 4-3 in a shootout, after being delayed almost two hours due to bus trouble.

Jeff Miles opened the scoring for the Inferno at 11:47 of the first period as he netted his 20th goal of the season on the power play. Jeremy Hall and Anthony Battaglia had the assists. Just over a minute later, Owen Fussey scored off of a Reid Cashman set up to give the Inferno a 2-0 lead. Columbia had 16 shots on goal to Gwinnett's four to end the first period.

At 6:58 of the second period, Hall scored his eighth goal of the season from Fussey as Columbia takes 3-0 commanding lead. The lead was cut to one goal in the second period when Gwinnett scored at 14:46 and 18:46 with goals by Anderson and Jeff Campbell. The Inferno was outshot in the second period 21-4. The Gladiators began the third period with the tying goal at 1:38 by Pospisil and sent the game into overtime.

After a scoreless overtime period, the game ended in a shootout with Columbia scoring three out of four shots. Goals by Tyson Marsh, Jeff Miles and Reid Cashman gave the win to the Inferno. Gwinnett scored only once in the shootout. Todd Ford played between the pipes for Columbia stopping 33 of 36 shots and earning the win. The Inferno went 1-for-1 on the power play and 2-for-2 on the penalty kill.

The Inferno returns home for a three games in three night's series starting on Thursday, February 14th to face the Pensacola Ice Pilots at 7:05pm. The Mississippi Sea Wolves are in town on Friday, February 15th for "PINK IN THE RINK" (7:05pm) and then the Ice Pilots are back at the Carolina Coliseum on Saturday, February 16th for a 1pm afternoon start.
