Trenton Devils News Release

JOHNSTOWN, PA (February 10, 2008) - The Trenton Devils lost a closely-fought game to the Johnstown Chiefs today at the Cambria County War Memorial Arena, 3-1. Trenton, skating short-manned the entire game, was unable to get solid pressure on netminder Ryan Nie for much of the game.

An early tally by the Chiefs' BJ Crum would be nullified by Jason Paige's fifth goal of the season 4:12 into the first. Paige entered the attacking zone by the top dot and sent in a testing shot towards Nie. The Chiefs' goaltender wasn't prepared for the rapid shot, dropping down to make the block only after the rubber had passed the goal line.

Matt Radoslovich and Jay Pemberton picked up assists on that goal. Both men are better known for their defensive skill, but have been picking up their game in the offensive spectrum as of late. Radoslovich's helper was his third in four games.

The Devils would hold strong against the Chiefs in equal-strength play, but a pair of power play goals would spell the difference in the game. A Devils' penalty 4:37 into the second frame set up the game-winning goal. Mike Knight's fifth of the season found its way to the low glove-side corner of Trenton's net 25 seconds into the man-advantage.

Jean Desrochers would then net his Johnstown-leading 19th goal of the season with a power play tally in the third to seal the game.

A furious six-on-five assault by the Devils in the final three minutes would result in several high-quality chances, but ultimately no goals.

Dave Caruso took the loss, stopping 22 of 25, while Ryan Nie earned the victory on 19 saves in 20 chances.

The loss moves Trenton into sixth place in the North Division, but they are just two points away from Johnstown and the fifth and final playoff berth. There are 21 games remaining in the regular season.

The Trenton Devils return home to battle the top team in the American Conference, the Texas Wildcatters. The puck drops Tuesday, February 12 at 7:00pm at Sovereign Bank Arena in Trenton, NJ. Go online to www.trentondevils.com and listen or watch live courtesy of B2 Networks.
