Bakersfield Condors News Release

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors lost to the Utah Grizzlies, 9-3, Saturday night in front of 5,799 fans at Rabobank Arena in downtown Bakersfield. The Condors remain only one point behind the Phoenix RoadRunners for the final National Conference playoff spot with two games in hand.

The Grizzlies (26-20-4, 56 points) jumped out to a three-goal lead early in the opening stanza with a pair of goals from LW Scott Burt, followed by a tally from RW Olivier Labelle. Burt's second of the game and Labelle's goal came just 22 seconds apart near the midway point of the period. Despite the deficit, the Condors (14-23-9, 37 points) led in shots in the period, 19-12.

After 26 seconds of play in the second period, F Justin Bourne added to the Utah attack with his 15th goal of the year to stretch the lead to 4-0. The Condors power play remained hot and cut the Utah lead to three, as LW Brett Lutes slapped a rebound home on the man advantage at the 8:16 mark of the second. However, Utah went right back on the attack with back-to-back goals from Burt, for the hat trick, and RW Justin Johnson. F Keith Johnson added a power- play goal just .2 seconds before the second period ended, giving the Grizzlies a 7-1 lead after two.

Utah netted their eighth goal of the night early in the third, but F Todd Griffith responded at 13:19 of the final frame with his 10th goal of the campaign on a snap shot from the left-wing circle. After the Grizzlies extended their lead back to seven, D Kevin Truelson hammered a one-timer into the back of Utah's net, accounting for the 9-3 final score.

Notes: The Condors Hollywood jerseys were auctioned off throughout the night and after the game, with the proceeds benefiting the Children's Miracle Network. Condors Captain Sean Venedam's jersey drew the largest bid on the night, fetching $4,000 by itself... The jersey auction total of $30,700 came just $1,500 shy of the team record, and also puts the grand total over half million dollars in the team's 10-year history.

The Condors retake The Nest Tuesday night when the first-place Las Vegas Wranglers come to Condorstown. That game features No Promotion sponsored by Nobody, just exciting Condors hockey as the team continues its playoff pursuit. Doors open at 6 p.m., puck drops at 7 p.m.
