Charlotte Checkers News Release

Charlotte, N.C. - A day after the Checkers defeated Pensacola, the Ice Pilots would return the favor beating Charlotte, 2-1.

In the first period, the lone goal was scored by Ice Pilots forward, Michael Cohen stole the puck in neutral ice and flipped a shot behind Checkers netminder, Chris Holt at 12:31 giving Pensacola a 1-0 lead.

During the middle frame, Pensacola would extend their lead to 2-0 during a two-man advantage when Mathieu Roy fired a shot from the slot that slid along the ice and beat Holt at 17:48.

The only goal the Checkers could muster came from Mike Bayrack as he directed Mark Lee's pass behind Ice Pilots goalie, Mike Brodeur at 17:24. Despite having a power play late in the contest, the Checkers couldn't close the gap and lost, 2-1.

Notes: Holt turned aside 21 of 23 while Brodeur stopped 37 of 38...Only Pensacola managed a power play goal on their seven chances. The Checkers went scoreless on their eight tries.
