Yard Goats Pitching Dominates in Road Victory

Bowie, MD - The Hartford Yard Goats won their fourth consecutive game with a 3-1 victory against the Bowie Baysox on Saturday night at Prince George's Stadium in Bowie, Maryland. Brandon Gold retired the first nine batters and faced just one over the minimum in six scoreless innings to record his sixth win. Colton Welker drove in two runs and Chris Rabago cranked his first home run, as the Yard Goats improved to a season-high 10 games above .500 for the first time since September 3, 2016. Ben Bowden pitched a perfect ninth to register his Eastern League leading 17th save in 17 chances. Since April 10th, Hartford has gone 31-16 and won 12 of 14 series.

The Yard Goats scored the first run of the game in the very first inning off Baysox starter Zac Lowther. Manny Melendez led off the game with a double down the left field line. He took third base on a long fly by Tyler Neven. Melendez scored on a sacrifice fly by Colton Welker, giving Hartford a 1-0 lead.

Hartford starter Brandon Gold retired the first nine batters of the game and allowed just one single over the first five innings. The right-hander completed six shutout innings when he pitched around a leadoff single in the sixth. Gold sat the side down in order in the first, second, third and fifth innings.

Orioles prospect Zac Bower kept the Hartford hitters off balance and recorded eighth strikeouts in six innings. Hartford loaded the bases against the lefty in the third inning but could not score. He departed with Bowie trailing 1-0.

The Yard Goats added a pair of runs off reliever Francisco Jimenez in the eighth inning to make it a 3-0 game. Chris Rabago led off the frame with a line drive homer to left, his first with the Yard Goats this season. Later in the inning, Colton Welker drove in Manny Melendez with a an RBI single to make it 3-0.

The Baysox got their only run on a solo homer by Preston Palmeiro, son of former Major League first baseman Rafael Palmeiro off reliever Alexander Guillen. Ben Bowden worked a perfect ninth for his 17th save.

The Yard Goats go for a three-game sweep in Bowie, Maryland on Sunday afternoon at 1:35PM. The game will be broadcast on AM 1410 WPOP and 100.9 FM and streamed on newsradio.1410.com and MiLB.com.
