'Dogs Win Game One on Curletta Homer, Game Two Postponed

Binghamton, NY - The Portland Sea Dogs (18-34) rallied back to beat the Binghamton Rumble Ponies (30-20) in game one of a doubleheader. The second game was postponed due to rain. The two teams will play attempt another twinbill on Sunday afternoon beginning at 1:05.

Game 1 Recap

Portland trailed 6-1 after four innings, but Joey Curletta slugged a game-winning, three-run homer in the sixth inning, giving Portland an 8-7 win.

Brian Ellington (2-0) allowed a homer in the sixth but snagged the win for the Sea Dogs. Matthew Gorst entered the game in the seventh inning and earned the save, retiring Jason Krizan with the winning run at first base.

For the second straight night, Bobby Dalbec hit two homers, giving Portland a 1-0 lead in the first. Binghamton responded with five runs off Matthew Kent (5 IP, 8 H, 6 R, 0 BB, 0 SO). Barrett Barnes tied the game with a single. David Thompson and Krizan added RBI singles, and Luis Carpio nailed a two-run double.

In the fourth, the Ponies scored a two-out run on a run-scoring single from Braxton Lee. Portland responded in the fifth inning. Josh Tobias (3-for-4) hit a three-run homer, and Dalbec hit a solo-homer (#12).

Sunday's doubleheader from NYSEG Stadium begins at 1:05 PM. LHP Darwinzon Hernandez (1-4, 4.81) and RHP Harold Gonzalez (3-1, 2.86) match-up in the opener. Game two features RHP Konner Wade (0-0, 3.91) against RHP Joseph Shaw (0-0, 0.00). Radio coverage on the WPEI U.S. Cellular Sea Dogs Radio Network begins at 12:50 PM with Mike Antonellis.
