Reading Fightin Phils News Release
(Reading, PA) - Austin Listi's three-run double in the bottom of the fifth inning of game two put the Fightins Phils up for good, as the Fightins secured a doubleheader sweep over the Richmond Flying Squirrels with 2-1 and 6-4 victories in Saturday's doubleheader at FirstEnergy Stadium.
Mickey Moniak drove in three runs across the two games. Moniak contributed a go-ahead RBI triple in the fifth inning of game one, and drove in the decisive run with a double in the sixth inning of game two.
Darick Hall's home run and Moniak's triple accelerated Reading's offense in the first game of the twin bill.
Richmond (18-34) put up an early run against Adonis Medina (3-2) in the first inning of game one, but Medina managed to permit just two hits through 5.2 innings in the win.
The R-Phils (30-21) got on the board in the bottom of the third inning with a solo blast by Hall, leveling the score, 1-1.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Arquimedes Gamboa walked, and Moniak ripped a triple down the first base line to score Gamboa and give Reading a 2-1 lead.
Addison Russ came on in the seventh, and retired all three batters to collect his seventh save.
In game two Richmond got on the board first for the third straight game, plating a run on Gio Brusa's infield single off Jose Taveras (2-0).
The Fightins answered in the bottom of the third inning, when Moniak hit a line drive single through the left side that scored Jose Gomez to narrow the deficit to 4-1. Cornelius Randolph followed that up two batters later when he drove in Gamboa to trim the Squirrels lead to 4-2.
Gamboa sparked the Reading offense in the bottom of the fifth inning, driving a double into the right field gap. Moniak and Randolph reached via walks, loading the bases. Listi picked up where he left off on Friday night, striking a ball to the right field corner off reliever Raffi Vizcaino (0-1) to score all three runners and give the Fightins a 5-4 lead.
Reading tacked on two key runs in the bottom of the sixth, one on a passed ball, and the second on Moniak's double to left-center that upped the lead to 7-4. The R-Phils hung on to win 7-6 despite a two-run double from Jalen Miller in the seventh.
The Fightins and Flying Squirrels will face off in game four of the five-game set on Sunday at 2:15 p.m., with JoJo Romero on the hill opposed by Brandon Lawson.
