
Yankees Complete Sweep of IronBirds

Staten Island, NY - The Staten Island Yankees pounded out 13 hits on Friday night, as they beat the Aberdeen IronBirds 7-4. With the win the Yankees completed a three-game sweep of the 'Birds for the second time this season.
The Yankees took the lead in the second. With the bases loaded and two men down, Mason Williams hit a fly ball to left-center field. Glynn Davis attempted to make a running catch, but dropped the baseball. Two unearned runs scored, staking Staten Island to the early lead.
In the fourth, Staten Island doubled their advantage. With one on and one out, Reymond Nunez drilled his second home run of the season.
The IronBirds cut into the Staten Island lead in the fourth inning. Mychal Givens reached on a single. Joe Velleggia walked, putting two men on with nobody out. Wynston Sawyer lifted a fly ball to right field that Casey Stevenson dropped. The right-fielder tried to throw Velleggia out at second, but instead threw the ball away. Stevenson was charged with two errors on the play, as Givens scored, Velleggia moved up to third and Givens cruised into second. Connor Narron then grounded out to short, scoring Velleggia, and making it a 4-2 ball game.
Aberdeen pulled to within one in the sixth. Velleggia and Sawyer reached on back-to-back singles. Narron and Austin Goolsby each walked, knocking in Velleggia, and making it 4-3.
The Yankees would pull away in their half of the sixth. Stevenson and Jhorge Liccien led off the inning with singles. With runners on the corners, Bobby Rinard grounded into a fielder's choice, scoring Stevenson. After Williams reached on a bunt single, Cito Culver cleared the bases with a two-run double.
The IronBrids scored their fourth and final run in the ninth. Cody Young reached on a double and Davis knocked him in with a two-bagger of his own.
Evan DeLuca (1-0) got the win. He allowed two unearned run on three hits in five innings of work. Aaron Wirsch (0-2) took the loss.
The IronBirds will try to snap a four-game losing streak at Hudson Valley on Saturday night. Aberdeen will have opening night starter Parker Bridwell (1-1, 2.77) on the hill. The Renegades will counter with right-hander Parker Markel (0-0, 0.00). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05.
