Aberdeen IronBirds News Release

Tonight's Match-up

The IronBirds will try to snap a three-game losing streak tonight and avoid being swept at the Staten Island Yankees (Class-A Short-Season affiliate of the New York Yankees). The IronBirds' comeback attempt fell just short last night against Staten Island. Down four in the ninth and aided by two Yankees errors, the IronBirds scored three times to pull to within one. The IronBirds couldn't quite close the gap, though, as they lost 6-5. Aberdeen will have left-hander Aaron Wirsch on the mound tonight. Wirsch surrendered a season-high six walks in five innings his last time out against the Brooklyn Cyclones. He'll go up against another left-hander, Evan DeLuca.

Worst and First

This series features the teams with the best and worst records in the league. The series has played out as expected, as Staten Island has defeated Aberdeen in the first two games. The Yankees, who started the season 1-2, have now won 10 straight games. The IronBirds, on the other hand, have lost three straight and 12 of their last 13 contests. Staten Island is now 5-0 against the IronBirds this season.

Road Woes

With last night's loss, the IronBirds dropped to 0-5 away from Ripken Stadium. Aberdeen was swept at the Brooklyn Cyclones in three games last week. The IronBirds pitching staff sports a 5.75 ERA on the road. They've walked 25 batters in 40.2 innings at MCU Park and Richmond County Ballpark.

Baby Bombers Living Up to Nickname

The Yankees have hit three home runs in the first two game of this series. Angelo Gumbs blasted two homers in the opener. Reymond Nunez took Zach Petersime deep last night for his first round-tripper of the season. Staten Island has hit eight home runs as a team, which is good for third in the New York-Penn League.

Come From Behind Victories

The IronBirds have been able to come from behind and win just one time this season. When trailing after six innings, the IronBirds are 0-8. The one come from behind victory came against the Cyclones on June 27th.
