Frederick Keys News Release
FREDERICK, MD. - The offense was buzzing for the Frederick Keys (11-15) who rallied their way to a 12-2 win over the Wilmington Blue Rocks (15-12) on Wednesday night at Nymeo Field. Trailing 2-1 in the third inning, the Keys put together a six-run frame on five hits and two walks to command a 7-2 lead and put the game out of reach. Several offensive performances fueled the win, including a four-RBI night from Willy Yahn, who hit his first career home run. Mason McCoy also had a career night, scoring three runs and tallying four hits for the second time in three days.
Wilmington grabbed a 2-1 lead by scoring a pair of runs in the second inning, but saw their fortune change quickly. With the bases loaded and one-out in the third inning, Jomar Reyes hit a soft line drive that tipped off the glove of first baseman Nick Pratto out into right field. Two runners scored on the play to give the Keys a 3-2 lead, and after a hit-batsman loaded the bases again, Yahn lined his first base hit to score two more and make it 5-2. Daniel Tillo (2-2) left the game a batter later after taking a line-drive off his leg. He was charged with all seven runs (six earned) after Cole Billingsley singled home two more Keys off of Collin Snider to pad a 7-2 lead.
Keys starter Cameron Bishop dealt with a multitude of baserunners throughout the night but pitched out of trouble. He lasted four innings and gave up two runs on five hits and four walks, which tied a career-high, while striking out four. Steve Klimek (1-1) entered in the fifth inning and was lights out in relief. He retired the first 11 batters he faced and tied a career-high with six strikeouts.
Yahn led off the bottom of the fifth with his first career home run and struck again in the seventh with an RBI single, his third hit of the day. Leading 9-2 into the eighth, the Keys pushed their lead to 12-2 thanks in part to a two-run double from J.C. Escarra, his second of the game. Escarra and Billingsley both finished with a pair of RBIs, while Reyes collected three.
The Keys conclude their four-game set against the Blue Rocks on Thursday, May 2. LHP DL Hall (1-0, 4.20 ERA) takes the mound against LHP Daniel Lynch (1-1, 4.70 ERA) with first pitch slated for an early 11am start time. Pregame coverage begins at 6:45 p.m. on frederickkeys.com and the TuneIn radio app.
