Frederick Keys News Release
FREDERICK, MD. - The Frederick Keys (10-15) lost a no-hitter and the game with one-out to go by a 5-4 score to the Wilmington Blue Rocks (15-11) on Tuesday night at Nymeo Field. Four walks, an error, a wild pitch, and an RBI double from Cristian Perez spoiled the Keys chance at history and gave the Blue Rocks a shocking victory.
Travis Seabrooke started the ninth inning with a strikeout but walked the next two batters and was replaced by Luis Perez (0-1). After walking the first hitter, Perez induced a ground-ball to Yeltsin Gudino. It looked to be a tailor-made double play until a bad hop missed Gudino's glove, scoring a run and keeping the bases loaded. A walk and a wild pitch forced the game to 4-3, and finally Perez doubled down the line to plate the tying and go-ahead run that gave Wilmington a 5-4 lead. The Keys put the tying run on base in bottom of the ninth, but could not respond.
Michael Baumann was stellar in his fourth start of the season, striking out a career-high 12 batters. He was pulled after six and two-thirds innings after throwing 87 pitches.
The Keys offense was active early, and Willy Yahn led the way with three hits. Leading 1-0 in the fifth, Frederick loaded the bases for Will Robertson, who hit a sacrifice fly to make it 2-0. Yahn followed suit with an RBI single, and Mason McCoy added another by powering a home run to right field in the sixth inning, pushing the lead to 5-0. Nine of the last 10 Keys hitters were retired after the sixth.
The Keys continue their four-game series against the Blue Rocks on Wednesday, May 1. LHP Cameron Bishop (0-1, 3.32 ERA) takes the mound against LHP Daniel Tillo (2-1, 4.57 ERA) with first pitch slated for 7pm. Pregame coverage begins at 6:45 p.m. on frederickkeys.com and the TuneIn radio app.
The Frederick Keys are the Advanced-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, and play their home games at Nymeo Field at Harry Grove Stadium. Following the 2018 season, the Keys were named the winner of the Carolina League's Complete Franchise Award. This goes to a team in the league which demonstrates franchise stability and significant contributions to its community and the league.
