Garcia: Surrendered one run over 5.2 innings with BB and career-high 10 K on 8/27 @ AUG (2-1 Jackets)
THE LEADOFF: West Virginia dropped an 8-1 final to the Lexington Legends on Monday night. It was the first time the Power lost to the Legends at home since April 26 in game one of a doubleheader. West Virginia fell behind 2-0 before even making a plate appearance after the defense committed two errors and a passed ball put two unearned runs on the ledger of starting pitcher Stephen Tarpley, who yielded only two runs over six innings of work. In relief of Tarpley, the bullpen surrendered six runs on ten hits including two home runs. West Virginia scored its only run of the game on an RBI groundout by Elvis Escobar.
RECORD WATCH: West Virginia has won 46 games at home this season, the most in franchise history. With seven games left, the Power have 81 wins overall, putting them one shy of matching the most in any one season. The 2007 set a franchise record with 82 wins and that total was matched in 2013. Following this series against Lexington, West Virginia wraps up the regular season with five games in Kannapolis.
TWO GOOD: This morning the South Atlantic League announced the selection of the 2015 Annual All-Star Team. Yeudy Garcia was tabbed as both the "Most Outstanding Pitcher" and the "Top Right-Handed Pitcher". Garcia is 12-5 and leads the league with a 2.11 ERA. Along with Garcia, Power right fielder Michael Suchy was selected as one of the outfielders as voted on by the league's field managers, coaches, general managers, sportswriters, and media relations directors. Suchy, a fifth round selection by the Pirates last season, is hitting .280 with ten home runs and 73 RBIs, the second most in the circuit.
PLAYOFF BOUND: With the victory on Saturday, West Virginia clinched its fourth postseason berth in franchise history and its second in the history of the affiliation with the Pittsburgh Pirates. On Sunday afternoon, West Virginia's victory guaranteed a Northern Division Championship in the second half. This playoff berth is the second for the Power during its seven-year affiliation with the Pittsburgh Pirates and the first since 2013.
SEPTEMBER CALL-UPS: The Pittsburgh Pirates will expand their roster beginning today and are expected to promote former West Virginia catcher Elias Diaz. Diaz spent two seasons with the Power in 2011 and 2012 and hit .214 in his two seasons but broke out last season in Double-A with a .328 clip. This season, Diaz was hitting .271 in 93 games with Indianapolis. There are 46 players who have made their MLB debut after playing with West Virginia.
FAB FIVE: In each of the last six games, every Power starter has worked into the sixth inning or beyond. During this stretch, starters are 3-1 with a 1.17 ERA (5 ER/38.1 IP).
TRUE LEGENDS: The Power own a 14-4 record against the Legends this season with two games left to go against the Kansas City Royals affiliate. West Virginia owns a 112-99 all-time record against the Legends since 2005, including a 50-52 mark against Lexington at Appalachian Power Park.
