West Virginia Scores in 10th for 3-2 Win over Legends

Connor Joe's single drove in Kevin Newman with the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning, giving the West Virginia Power a 3-2 victory over the Lexington Legends Tuesday night.

The Legends had tied the game with two outs in the ninth inning when DonAndre Clark singled, moved to third on an error by right fielder Michael Suchy and came home on a single by Austin Bailey.

West Virginia's Elvis Escobar hit a two-run homer in the second inning to put the Power up 2-0. Escobar's homer, his fifth of the season, followed a single by Jerrick Suiter.

West Virginia starter Yeudy Garcia, who earlier in the day was named Most Outstanding Pitcher in the South Atlantic League for 2015, walked five batters, but allowed only two hits and no runs in the first five innings. Julio Vivas blanked the Legends on two hits through the seventh.

The Legends broke through in the eighth inning against Jose Regalado. Chad Johnson led off with a double, moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Wander Franco, and scored on a ground out by Anderson Miller, leaving West Virginia with a 2-1 lead going to the ninth.

Regalado (6-5) finished the game and got the win after blowing the save.

Colin Rodgers (3-11) was the losing pitcher. He worked four innings and allowed two hits, struck out six batters and walked one. He gave up one run, the game winner in the 10th.

Legends starter Foster Griffin allowed two runs on four hits, walked two and struck out two in five and one-third innings.

West Virginia has won three of the first four games in the series, which concludes Wednesday night. Game time is 7:05.
