Coley: Surrendered one run on six hits over 7.0 IP with 2 BB and 3 K in 8/19 W @ LEX (6-2 Power)
Young: Gave up six runs on six hits over 3.0 IP with 3 BB and 2 K in 8/17 L vs. SAV (6-1 Sand Gnats)
THE LEADOFF: West Virginia scored twice in the ninth to win in walkoff fashion against Lakewood in the series finale on Sunday afternoon. With the Power trailing 2-1 entering the ninth, Michael Suchy hit a leadoff solo home run to tie the game at two. Then, the Power put two men on base without the benefit of a hit and Francisco Diaz pulled a first-pitch breaking ball from Matt Hockenberry to right field to give West Virginia the 3-2 walkoff win. Colten Brewer gave up two runs on four hits over 5.2 innings while Jose Regalado earned the win in relief.
MAGIC NUMBER AT SIX: The Power have a magic number of six heading into play tonight. Any combination of six Power victories or Lakewood losses will guarantee a postseason berth for the Power. Hickory's elimination number is also at six though they won the first-half championship. The only teams in the league eliminated from postseason contention are the Greensboro Grasshoppers and the Kannapolis Intimidators. The Power can clinch the division title as early as Thursday.
AUGUSTA IN AUGUST: West Virginia plays Augusta for the final four times beginning tonight. The Power dropped three of the four games played against the GreenJackets when the two clubs met from June 12-15 despite outscoring them 16-15. The Power trail the all-time series with 23 wins to 31 losses.
OUR HOUSE: The Power won it's 44th game at Appalachian Power Park on Sunday afternoon. The victory was tied the franchise-record for most wins at home in a season, matching the 2007 club. The Power have five more home games remaining this season against Lexington beginning on Saturday.
ON TOP OF THE WOLRD: Saturday's win by the Power propelled the club into first place in the overall standings in the South Atlantic League's Northern Division. The Power last held the best overall record in the Northern Division on April 18.
HITS JUST KEEP ON COMING: West Virginia's offense has had at least nine hits in 18 of the 22 games played this month and have the league's best batting average this month at .301. No other team in the league is hitting above .300 this month. Elvis Escobar has the best batting average among everyday starters with a .388 batting average.
UP TOP: Elvis Escobar currently leads the team with a .303 batting average which also ranks sixth in the South Atlantic League. The last player to hit over .300 for West Virginia with enough at bats to win a batting title was Walker Gourley (.304) in 2013. The current batting leader in the league is Asheville's Shane Hoelscher who is hitting .315.
ON TO THE NEXT ONE: This morning the West Virginia Power unveiled the 2016 schedule. West Virginia will begin play on April 7 at Greensboro. Of the 70 home games, 12 will be played in April followed by 16 in May, 12 in June, 13 in July and August, and four in September. The Power will play Lexington 20 times and Delmarva 18 times, the most against any opponent next season.
PROMO UPDATE- AUGUST 29: The first 1,000 fans will receive a Bill Mazeroski bobblehead courtesy of AARP and 58 WCHS to celebrate the Pittsburgh Pirates 1960 World Series Championship.
POWER POINTS: The Power have committed 108 errors this season and are tied with Hickory with the fewest errors in the league this season...Tyler Filliben's inside-the-park home run on Saturday was the second one hit by the Power this season. Jordan Luplow hit one on in game one of the June 14 doubleheader against Augusta.
AROUND THE ORGANIZATION: Gregory Polanco went 4-for-5 in Pittsburgh's 5-2 victory over Miami...Indianapolis won 3-2 in the 12th inning thanks to a walkoff hit by Keon Broxton...Max Moroff tallied three hits to up his batting average to .296 but Altoona lost to Reading 11-5...Bradenton survived a late rally by Palm Beach to win 8-6. Montana DuRapau earned his 11th save of the season to lower his ERA to 0.95...The Black Bears hit a walkoff in the 13th inning to win 10-9 over Batavia
