Lexington starter Matt Tenuta and relievers Eric Stout and Jake Newberry combined to scatter nine hits as the Legends shut out the Rome Braves 3-0 Tuesday night at Whitaker Bank Ballpark. Michael Hill had a double, a triple and two runs batted in for Lexington.

The Braves' nine hits were all singles, and they had one in every inning.

The Legends broke through in the fifth inning against Rome starter Sean Furney. Chase Vallot drew a leadoff walk, moved to second on a sacrifice by Samir Duenez and to third on a wild pitch. He scored on Hill's double to right field.

Lexington scored its second run in the seventh inning on back-to-back triples by Duenez and Hill, and Vallot hit his ninth home run of the year, a solo shot , in the eighth inning to complete the scoring.

Tenuta (2-6) was the winning pitcher. He worked six innings and allowed six hits and no runs. He walked one batter and struck out four. Stout gave up two hits in two innings, and Newberry allowed a one-out single in the ninth before retiring the side for his seventh save of the year.

Game two of the four-game series will be played Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m.
