
Frebis Works Scoreless Relief in Loss to Shorebirds

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (August 25, 2015) - Delmarva pitchers held Kannapolis scoreless over the final eight innings to beat the Intimidators, 5-1, on Tuesday at Intimidators Stadium supported by Carolinas HealthCare System. Kannapolis (24-32-1 Second Half, 59-66-1) is now winless in its last seven games.
Shorebirds starting pitcher Dariel Delgado (6-3) earned the win, recovering from a one-run first inning but keeping the Intimidators off the board of his final four innings. He spun 5.0 innings, giving up four hits with two walks and two strikeouts. Relievers Mike Burke and Ivan Hernandez combined to shutout the Kannapolis offense over the final four innings.
Kannapolis plated the game's first run in the first inning when Toby Thomas singled to plate Michael Suiter for an early 1-0 lead.
The Shorebirds responded in the to of the fourth with two runs to take the lead. Cameron Kneeland singled to cash Jomar Reyes, who was hit by a Luis Martinez pitch to the open the inning. Logan Uxa scored on a double play ball for a 2-1 advantage.
Delmarva extended its lead in the sixth inning with three runs without the benefit of a hit Martinez plunked Reyes for the second time, and Kneeland drew a walk to end Martinez's evening. Brad Salgado walked two batters and hit another, forcing in two runs, and Guillermo Salas tacked on a sac-fly to push the Shorebirds' lead to 5-1.
Martinez (4-13) took the loss, giving up four runs on four hits with 5 and 1/3 innings, walking three and striking out four. The Intimidators' pitching staff combined to hit four batters on the night.
Reliever Johnathan Frebis, the White Sox 33rd round pick in the June 2015 First-Year Player Draft out of Middle Tennessee State University, made his second appearance for the Intimidators. He spun 2.0 scoreless innings, working around a hit in his first action in front of the home crowd.
The Intimidators and Shorebirds continue this four-game series on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. as RHP Jose Brito (1-2, 4.03 ERA) takes the mound for Kannapolis against Delmarva's RHP Francisco Jimenez (0-0, 6.75 ERA).
