Sandberg Sparks Claws in 6-3 Tuesday Victory

LAKEWOOD, NJ - Cord Sandberg's two-run double in a four-run second inning put the BlueClaws ahead and they would lead the rest of the way in a 6-3 win over Hagerstown on Tuesday night at FirstEnergy Park.

The win snaps a three-game BlueClaws losing streak and improve to 31-26/64-61 on the season while Hagerstown falls to 28-29/63-62 on the season. Lakewood has won nine of the 17 meetings between the clubs this year.

The BlueClaws jumped out to a four-run lead in the second inning with Cord Sandberg opening the scoring with a two-run double. Deivi Grullon added an RBI single and Drew Stankiewicz followed with an RBI double to put the BlueClaws up 4-0.

Lakewood added to the lead with two more in the third inning on an RBI double by Jiandido Tromp and another scored on an error by centerfielder Andrew Stevenson.

Lakewood starter Austin Davis allowed three runs, all in the fifth, over five innings of work before giving way to Jairo Munoz, who threw three scoreless innings.

Matt Hockenberry tossed a 1-2-3 ninth inning for his 15th save of the year.

Drew Stankiewicz, Cord Sandberg, and Jiandido Tromp all had two hits for Lakewood in victory.

The series with Hagerstown continues on Wednesday night. LHP Elniery Garcia (8-9) starts for Lakewood against LHP Connor Bach (6-4) with a first pitch at 7:05.
