Greenville, SC - A good start to Tuesday night's game for the Greenville Drive did not lead to a strong finish, as the Greensboro Grasshoppers silenced the Drive bats late and used an eighth inning comeback to win the series opener at Fluor Field 3-2.

The Drive (26-31, 64-63) took a 2-1 lead into the eighth and brought in ace reliever Kuehl McEachern (7-4) to try and seal the game, but the Grasshoppers (19-38, 48-78) had other ideas. Following a leadoff single by Felix Castillo and a sacrifice bunt, Mason Davis singled Castillo to third, and Justin Twine followed with the game-tying single. Later in the frame, Brian Schales lined a single over the leaping Javier Guerra at shortstop to put Greensboro ahead.

Jorgan Cavanerio (4-5) took home the win after delivering seven strong innings for the Grasshoppers. He allowed six hits and two runs while striking out four and not issuing a walk.

The late rally by Greensboro spoiled a strong effort from Drive starter Ben Taylor, who gave up only two hits, one run and two walks with six punchouts in five innings. Carlos Pinales followed Taylor with two scoreless innings of relief.

The Drive jumped out to a 2-0 lead against Cavanerio in the first after just three batters. Yoan Moncada singled and promptly stole his 41st base of the year, and he came home on a single by Danny Mars. Rafael Devers followed with a double to the wall in left to score Mars all the way from first. Cavanerio, Eduar Quinonez and Jose Velez kept Greenville off the board for the rest of the game, with Velez nailing down his second save.

Greensboro struck for their only run off Taylor in the fourth. Twine's one-out single was the first hit in the game against the Drive starter, and after he stole second, Arturo Rodriguez drove a single to left to score the run.

Mars had a nice game for Greenville, collecting two hits and an RBI while making a terrific diving catch in left field. Twine was the lone Greensboro player with a two-hit game.

The teams will meet again at 7:05 on Wednesday night at Fluor Field for game two of the four-game series. A pair of southpaws will take the mound, as Jake Drehoff (2-1, 3.04) starts for the Drive against Gabriel Castellanos (1-0, 5.68) of the Grasshoppers.
