Augusta GreenJackets News Release

AUGUSTA, GA: Tuesday night, the Augusta GreenJackets (61-64) returned home from a tough series weekend series in against the Charleston RiverDogs. The GreenJackets welcomed in the North Division leaders West Virginia Power (77-49) as they tried to snap a six game losing streak in a crucial part of the season. Patrick Young who made the start for the GreenJackets left the game after pitching two and two thirds innings allowing five runs at that point in the game. The Power went on to tack on two more runs to take game one with a final score of seven to three.

The Power jumped out to an early two run lead in the top of the first inning and the opened the flood gates in the third inning with four runs to extend their lead to six runs. Four Power players (Kevin Newman, Chase Simpson, and Tyler Filliben, Elvis Esocbar) collected two hits on the night to highlight the Power's stat sheet.

Patrick Young started tonight's game hoping for a better out come than his last time on the hill against Savannah. Young only pitched three innings and allowed three earned runs. Unfortunately for Young and the GreenJackets his outing had a similar out come. Young tossed two and two thirds innings, allowing eight hits, and four earn runs. Relief pitchers Jake McCasland Rodolfo Martinez, and Eury Sanchez worked the rest of the game for the GreenJackets. With McCasland carrying the most of the innings and only giving up one run.

In the bottom of the fifth the GreenJackets began to fight their way back into the game when Will Callaway sped down the first base line to force shortstop Kevin Newman to make a throwing error to first base. With Callaway standing on first, Richard Rodriguez made the error hurt even worse by hitting a triple to right field to score Callaway. Skyler Ewing knocked in Rodriguez from third for his forty-first RBI of the season and Power's lead was cut to four runs.

Before the night was over the GreenJackets added another run on the scoreboard when Matt Pare third hit of the night scored catcher Matt Winn from second base. Both Richard Rodriguez and Matt Pare had three hits during the game.

The GreenJackets would end up falling to the Power with a score of seven to three. The final scoreboard line would read three runs, eleven hits, and three errors for the Augusta GreenJackets and seven runs, eleven hits, and one error for the West Virginia Power.

Wednesday night's game two probable pitching match up includes RHP Chris Johnson for the GreenJackets and LHP Stephen Tarpley for the Power. The game has a scheduled first pitch of 7:05pm.
