Las Vegas, NV - The Las Vegas Wranglers(r) announced that they have signed forward Tomas Petruska to an amateur tryout agreement and that they have acquired defenseman John Wessbecker from the Trenton Devils
Tomas Petruska, 24, joins the Wranglers after completing four years at Bowling Green State University. The 5-11, 190 lb. forward accumulated 24 goals and 32 assists in 145 collegiate contests. His best season occurred this year as he totaled 10 goals and 14 assists in 36 games. The Presov, Slovakia native will be in uniform for the Wranglers tonight, wearing #12.
"Tomas is good player coming off a successful senior season at Bowling Green," said Wranglers Head Coach Ryan Mougenel. "With the number of recent American League call-ups we've experienced he has an opportunity to make an impression right away at the ECHL level."
In a separate transaction occurring on ECHL Trade Deadline Day, the Wranglers announced that they have acquired defensemen John Wessbecker from the Trenton Devils in exchange for considerations. The 6' 2" blueliner has appeared in only 9 games due to injury this season and recorded no points and nine penalty minutes. The Victoria, Minnesota, native played four years at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst where he was named to the Hockey East All-Academic Team during all four of his collegiate seasons. In 123 collegiate games, the 2005 Seventh Round selection of the Tampa Bay Lightning (#225 overall) totaled two goals and ten assists.
"John is a good defensive player who recently returned from injury," said Wranglers Head Coach Ryan Mougenel. "He's a quality defenseman who gives us much needed depth as we embark on our push for the playoffs. We're lucky to be able to add a player like John this late in the season"
