Wessbecker Traded to Las Vegas

Trenton, NJ - The Trenton Devils announced today that defenseman John Wessbecker has been traded to the Las Vegas Wranglers. The announcement was made by Lowell and Trenton Devils General Manager Chris Lamoriello.

Wessbecker, 23, was selected by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the seventh round, #225 overall, in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. After signing a contract with the Devils on October 27, 2009, Wessbecker was scoreless and recorded nine penalty minutes in nine games for the Devils before being placed on the 21 Day IR. The Victoria, Minnesota native spent the last four seasons playing for the University of Massachusetts, where he accumulated 80 career penalty minutes and recorded two goals and 10 assists for 12 career points. For four consecutive years, Wessbecker was named to the Hockey East All-Academic Team, earning Distinguish Scholar honors for having a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Wessbecker shoots right, is listed at six-foot-two, 195 pounds, and will turn 24 September 15.
