Elmira Jackals News Release

The Kalamazoo Wings earned a 5-2 win over the Elmira Jackals at First Arena in Elmira, N.Y., jumping out to a 3-0 second-period lead and earning their second win over the Jackals in the last three games.

The K-Wings got started early. At 4:07 of the first period, Mathieu Curadeau caused a turnover, fed the puck for Patrick Asselin, who found Rick Cleaver cutting to the net, and Cleaver knocked it in for the 1-0 advantage.

With the Jackals short handed, a clear attempt went off the leg of a Jackal, came right to Dean Strong who fed Andrew Fournier backdoor at 13:18 as the K-Wings converted on the power play to make it 2-0.

At 8:57 of the second period, a Darryl Lloyd shot was blocked in front, but Strong knocked in the loose puck to give the K-Wings a 3-0 advantage.

Elmira fought back to make it a one-goal game with two-straight goals. Chaz Johnson scored at 9:14 of the second period on a shot from the high slot, and Tyler Donati's shot from the right goal line deflected in to make it 3-2 at 19:04, and the Jackals were back in the game.

40 seconds after Donati's goal, though, the K-Wings made it a 4-2 game when Dean Strong scored at 19:44 of the middle period.

Sam Ftorek's slap shot at 13:49 of the third period beat Jackals goaltender Andy Chiodo five-hole, and that wrapped up the scoring as Kalamazoo went onto beat Elmira 5-2.

Chiodo stopped 29 of 34 Kalamazoo shots, falling to 6-3-0-0 on the season. Nie stopped 23 of 25 shots, improving to 22-9-2-1 on the season.

Elmira's record fell to 33-21-3-2 while Kalamazoo upped its record to 35-17-5-3.

The Jackals host the Cincinnati Cyclones on Saturday night at First Arena at 7:35 p.m. For tickets, call (607) 734-PUCK (7825), visit the First Arena Box Office, or click here.
