Wranglers opening night set for Friday

Las Vegas, NV- The Las Vegas Wranglers posted a 2-0-1 record in three road games this past week. Tuesday night, Las Vegas edged the Roadrunners 6-5 in Phoenix. Friday night, the Wranglers posted a 3-2 shootout win in Utah, followed by a 3-2 shootout loss to the Grizzlies on Saturday night at the E Center.

This Friday, Las Vegas will host the Victoria Salmon Kings for their first home game of the 2006-07 season. As part of Opening Night, the Wranglers will hand out magnetic schedules to every fan that walks through the gates of the Orleans Arena, compliments of Integrity Chrysler Jeep Dodge, the official and exclusive car dealer of the Las Vegas Wranglers. Saturday night, the Wranglers host the Salmon Kings at 7:05 pm.

Las Vegas 6 at Phoenix 5

Phoenix, AZ - The Las Vegas Wranglers defeated the Phoenix Roadrunners 6-5 at the U.S. Airways Center on Tuesday night. Six Wranglers enjoyed multi-point games as Las Vegas improved to 9-0-1 against Phoenix all-time. Lucas Lawson's second goal of the season at 4:24 of the third period turned out to be the game winner. Goalie Marc Magliarditi stopped 35 of 40 Phoenix shots, picking up the Wranglers first win of the season. Wranglers' defenseman Scott Schoneck assisted on three goals to lead all Las Vegas scorers. Rookies Adam Cracknell and Kelly Czuy, along with Lawson and Joe Tallari, each had a goal and an assist in the victory.

Las Vegas 3 at Utah 2 SO

West Valley City, UT - The Las Vegas Wranglers edged the Utah Grizzlies 3-2 in a shootout at the E-Center on Friday night. Defenseman Jason Jozsa scored the game-tying goal with 29-seconds remaining in regulation and scored the game-winning goal in the shootout as the Wranglers remained unbeaten in regulation this season. Goalie Mike McKenna stopped 31 of 33 Utah shots in regulation and all five in the shootout for his first win of the season. Left wing Marco Peluso also added a power-play goal in the win.

Saturday, October 28th

Las Vegas 2 at Utah 3 SO

West Valley, UT - The Las Vegas Wranglers were edged by the Utah Grizzlies 3-2 in a shootout at the E-Center on Saturday night. Utah's Brad Herauf beat Las Vegas goalie Mike McKenna in the seventh round of a sudden death shootout for the win. Despite the shootout loss, Las Vegas remains unbeaten in regulation this season. Forwards Aki Seitsonen and Tyler Mosienko each scored their first goals of the season for Las Vegas. The Wranglers ended a five-game road trip gaining seven out of a possible 10 points. McKenna made 35 saves in regulation, and for the fourth straight start, finished the game in a shootout. Utah's D.J. Jellitto and Blake Robson each scored in regulation for the Grizzlies.

Magliarditi Moved to Injured Reserve, Nastiuk Assigned By Albany

Fourth-year Wrangler Marc Magliarditi was placed on the 30-day injured reserve on Saturday with a list of numerous ailments. To fill his spot, the Albany River Rats, American Hockey League Affiliate of the Carolina Hurricanes, have recalled goalie Kevin Nastiuk from the Florida Everblades and reassigned him to Las Vegas on Friday. The second-year pro was a fourth round pick of Carolina in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. During the 2003-04 WHL season, Nastiuk posted a 40-19-8 record with seven shutouts. Last season in Florida, Nastiuk posted a 13-4-2 record with a .924 save percentage and a 2.52 goals against average.

For the first time in team history neither Marc Magliarditi or defenseman Mike McBain will be in the line-up when the Wranglers take the ice for Opening Night. The Wranglers were dealt a serious blow to their defensive unit Friday night as Captain Mike McBain sustained an undisclosed injury that will sideline him for 4-6 weeks.

This Week's Opponent -

Victoria Salmon Kings - (1-3-1, 3 Points, 5th Place, West Division) - The Victoria Salmon Kings are led by defenseman Steve Lingren. Last year's ECHL All-Star wears the "C" for Victoria and is already amongst the league leaders in power-play assists with four on the season. Overall, Lingren has five points in five games played. Victoria is led in scoring by former 2nd Round NHL draft choice Kiel McLeod. McLeod was selected by the Columbus Blue Jackets with the 53rd overall pick in the 2001 draft. In five games played this season, McLeod has four goals and one assist for five points, as well as adding 24 penalty minutes. McLeod has scored in two straight games, including the game-winning goal on Saturday night against Idaho. Forward Milan Gajic is a new addition to the Salmon Kings this season. During the 2005-06 season, Gajic played 41 games with the Gwinnett Gladiators, posting 25 goals and 33 assists for 58 points. This season Gajic has scored one goal and assisted on another for two points in three games played. Wingers Wes Goldie and Mike Stutzel each have three goals and two assists for five points. Victoria has allowed 20 goals in their first five games. Las Vegas leads the all-time series with a 12-0-1 record.
