Steelheads set for home opener Friday

Bring It On

Qwest Arena will be rocking Friday night as the Steelheads drop the puck on their Tenth Anniversary Season against the Utah Grizzlies! The Honorable Governor Risch and Mr. and Mrs. J.R. Simplot are some of the VIP's who will be on hand for the opening night festivities. Landamerica Transnation schedule magnets, Idaho Statesman newspapers and smack stix will be handed out at the door. And, every fan who brings a coat to donate to the Boise Rescue Mission will receive a coupon for a free ticket for Sunday's game! The Steelheads new mascot will be unveiled and, new this year, on Freak-in Fan-tastic Fridays fans can win $20 gift certificates for merchandise and concessions for dressing up in Steelheads gear.

Reel Rewind

The Idaho Steelheads return to Qwest Arenatied for the league-lead with eight points and a 4-1 record (4-1-0, 8 points). Both the Fresno Falcons and Gwinnett Gladiators have identical records, however, only the Steelheads played all five of their games in hostile territory on the road.

Head coach Derek Laxdal said of the road trip, "We'll take it. Any time you can take four of five games on the road, you're going to be pleased with your team. We started out on the trip with set goals, and we feel as a team we achieved our goals, but there's room for improvement on our special teams."

The Steelheads were spoilers for two of their three opponents' home openers, beating Long Beach and Victoria on their opening nights.

Baby, It's Cold Outside

The Idaho Steelheads are teaming up with the Boise Rescue Mission, on Opening Night-November 3rd, to help people in need across the Treasure Valley. Fans who bring a new or gently-used coat - men's, women's and/or children's sizes - will receive a ticket to watch the Steelheadss Sunday afternoon game for Free. Thanks to Westco Martinizing and Dry Cleaning for providing their services to clean all donated coats.

Head coach Derek Laxdal nominated the following for the ECHL players of the week:

Forward Scott Burt (2g-0a) as Player of the Week, and Goaltender Steve Silverthorn (2.90 goals-against-average; 91.8 save percentage).

Winger Marty Flichel has a season-long, five-game point streak (2g-5a) Winger Derek Nesbitt has three goals in the last two games and leads the team with four markers overall Goaltender Steve Silverthorn has won his first four starts and he is 16-5-0 in his last 21 decisions (dating back to 2005-06)
