
Wranglers Open Season With a 3-2 Shootout Defeat

Fresno, CA - The Las Vegas Wranglers (0-0-1, 1 points) were defeated by the Fresno Falcons (1-0-0, 2 points) 3-2 in a shootout at the Save Mart Center on Friday night. Colin Shields and Brady Leisenring each scored in the shootout to lift Fresno over Las Vegas. Leisenring scored a goal and added an assist in regulation for Fresno. Wranglers forward Lucas Lawson scored a goal and added an assist in the defeat. Goalie Mike McKenna suffered the defeat with 33 saves in regulation. Defenseman Jason Jozsa also scored for Las Vegas. The Wranglers will remain in Fresno for a rematch on Sunday at 5:00 pm.
Las Vegas scored the first goal of opening night as Lucas Lawson beat Fresno goalie Scott Stirling on the glove side at 10:23 of the opening period. Forwards Steve Crampton and Derek Edwardson set up the first goal of the year. Just over two minutes later, Las Vegas capitalized on a 4-on-3 power play. Defenseman Scott Schoneck set up Jason Jozsa for a one-timer at 12:52 for the 2-0 lead. Las Vegas outshot Fresno 14-11 in the first period.
The Falcons answered back in the second period, outscoring Las Vegas 2-0 and outshooting the Wranglers 13-3. The Falcons scored their first goal of the season at 14:52 of the second when Brady Leisenring beat Mike McKenna for a power-play goal. The Falcons tied the game at two just under four minutes later as Leisenring set up Rob McFeeters first goal of the season at 18:42.
After a scoreless third period and overtime, Fresno's Scott Stirling stopped all four shooters he faced in the shootout. Leisenring and Colin Shields each scored in the shootout to lift Fresno to a 3-2 win.
The Wranglers will play in Fresno on Sunday before heading to Phoenix on Tuesday night.
