Augusta Lynx News Release

Augusta, GA - Shayne Hynes and Ryan Lang each scored twice and added an assist as the Augusta Lynx downed the Gwinnett Gladiators by a 6-5 score Saturday night in front of 3,296 fans at the James Brown Arena. Lang opened the scoring just 1:45 into the contest from Hynes and Louis Goulet to get the crowd into the game quickly, but the Gladiators would even things just 1:43 later on a Jon Awe power play marker.

Hynes gave Augusta the advantage back with a man-advantage goal of his own from Lang and Derrick Byfuglien, but back came Gwinnett on Andy Contois' first goal of the year at 15:08.

Augusta would round out the period by grabbing the lead back on Lang's second goal of the night from Goulet and Ken Scuderi at 16:39 for a 3-2 count through 20 minutes of play.

Nathan Saunders got his name on the score sheet with a good bounce, turning his dump-in to the Gwinnett zone into a goal as the puck kicked of a glass stanchion and deflected past a helpless Dan Turple, who strayed from the Gladiator goal to play the puck. Colton Fretter jumped right back for Gwinnett with a power play goal at 16:37 to draw his club back within one at 4-3 to close the second stanza.

In the third period, Hynes got the ball rolling once again with his second on a pretty tic-tac-toe passing play with J.B. Bittner and Joe Cardarelli at 4:58. Mike Vigilante made it a one-goal difference again at 14:41, but Jon Landry netted the eventual game winner in a goalmouth scramble, shoveling the puck past the sprawling Turple for a 6-4 lead.

A late push from Gwinnett would yield one more goal, but the Gladiators could not find a way to tie the game after taking a late penalty and putting themselves down a man for the final 1:05 of the contest.

Lynx rookie netminder Dave McKee was solid in net for Augusta, making several key stops and finishing with 33 saves for his first pro win. Turple took the loss with 26 saves on the night.

Augusta will take to the road until November 10 when they return home against the South Carolina Stingrays. The Lynx will next play Friday, October 27 against the Columbia Inferno at 7:05 pm, with the Classic Stucco and Stone Pre-Game Show kicking off one half-hour before faceoff on your Home for Lynx Hockey, NEWSTALKSPORTS 1630.
