Inferno down Lynx on opening night

Augusta, GA - A five-goal second period propelled the Columbia Inferno to an opening night 7-3 victory over the Augusta Lynx at James Brown Arena before 3,324 fans.

Columbia opened the scoring with their first of five power play goals on the night, as Jeff Miles marked just 3:24 into the game. Augusta would notch a power play marker of their own as Louis Goulet tipped a Derrick Byfuglien shot past Robert Gherson (30 saves) to tie the game at 1-1 through 20 minutes of play.

The Inferno broke the game open by scoring the next five straight goals, getting tallies from Mike Jarmuth, Chris Thompson, Marc Faulkner, Brad Ralph, and Jarmuth again. Ryan Lang would tack on a late even strength effort to make it 6-2 after two periods. Luke Fulghum scored an unassisted goal in the third and Joe Carderelli added a late power play goal with just 20 seconds remaining in regulation for the 7-3 final.
