Ice Pilots Fall to Johnstown 5-2

JOHNSTOWN, PA -- The Johnstown Chiefs fired five first period goals and held on to beat the Pensacola Ice Pilots 5-2 on Saturday night at the War Memorial Arena in Johnstown, PA.

The Ice Pilots fell to 0-2-0 and will conclude their three-game eastern road trip tomorrow (Sunday) afternoon in Reading against the Royals at 3:30 pm central time. The game can be heard on Classic Country Am1620 beginning with the pre-game show at 3:15 pm following NASCAR coverage.

Johnstown came out firing in the first 20 minutes as their leader Jean Desrochers scored a natural hattrick. Four of the Chiefs five goals in the frame came on the power play. The first two chased starting goaltender Jon Volp who was replaced by Jeff Pietrasiak who kept his team in the game in the final 40 minutes.

The Ice Pilots went to work over the last two periods and did not surrender another while scoring two of their own. Dwayne Hay scored his first goal of the season from Tyler Liebel and Brendan Cook. Mario Joly finished off the scoring with his second of the season from Dwayne Hay and Ryan Crane in the third period.

There was a total of 31 power play opportunities including 18 by Johnstown where 10 of them were in the first period alone.

After being out-shot 13-6 in the first period, the Ice Pilots managed to fire a decided shot advantage of 27-15 in the last two periods.
