April 1, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Las Vegas Wranglers News Release
Las Vegas, NV â The Las Vegas Wranglers were named by the Las Vegas Review-Journal Newspaper as the Best Sports Team in Town, as voted by the staff.
In only their second year of existence, the Wranglers have won the award two consecutive years in a row. The RJ stated, "They are easy to love, plus a fan-friendly arena to call home and rowdy opponents to visit". The RJ added. "How could we resist the team with the sassiest ad campaign around, "Loosest Teeth in Town", "Forearm Shiver Giveaways". Give us a sense of humor and we are there every time".
The Wranglers also tied with UNLV Rebels Men's Basketball as the Best Sports Team in Town in the reader's online voting.
"The Rebels have run away with this category before, but they couldn't escape the upstart Wranglers this year", stated www.reviewjournal.com. "The Wranglers fans are making a statement by putting their team on the same line with the Rebels, who have dominated the Las Vegas sporting landscape for years."
The Wranglers have seen team attendance at the Orleans Arena grow from 4,981 a game for the 2004-05 season, to over 5,100 a game this season. The team set new attendance records this season starting with 7,310 on January 8th when they hosted the Peoria Rivermen at the Orleans Arena. The team broke that record with the first sellout in team history on Saturday, January 29th. The team drew a maximum-capacity of 7,773 in a 2-1 shootout win over Victoria. Las Vegas ranks sixth in the 28-team ECHL for attendance.
The Wranglers will host Victoria at the Orleans Arena on Friday, April 1st and Bakersfield stops in on Saturday, April 2nd. Friday night, the first 1,500 fans get a Wranglers Travel Mug sponsored by Trendwest and the Wranglers will reveal their new jerseys for next season, which will be auctioned off during the game in a silent auction. Saturday, fans may attend the Port of Subs Pre-Game Party in the parking lot of the Orleans Arena from 4:00â6:00 pm. The first 2,500 fans of the day (over the age of 3) to attend Saturday's game, will receive the collectible and playable Wranglers MR. POTATO HEAD SPORTS SPUD, this includes the first 200 fans to Saturday's Port-of Subs Pre-Game Party. The Wranglers conclude their season with three home games against Alaska on April 5th, 8th, and 9th.
