Mississippi's Dumont Plays 700th ECHL Game Friday

PRINCETON, N.J. - Mississippi center Louis Dumont will play his 700th ECHL game on Friday at Louisiana, ranking him second in league history behind Cam Brown, who had played in 712 ECHL games heading into Friday's game against Charlotte.

In his 11th season in the ECHL, Dumont is the career leader with 506 assists and 813 points while ranking sixth with 307 goals. Dumont leads Mississippi and is tied for 19th in the ECHL with 59 points (18g-41a) in 65 games. He leads the Sea Wolves in assists (41), power-play assists (15), power-play points (21) and game-winning goals (5).

In 2003-04, Dumont played in all 72 games for Mississippi, tying for fourth in the league with 84 points (33g-51a) while tying for the team lead in goals and ranking second in assists and points.

Born in Calgary, Alberta, Dumont has played all but 10 of his professional games in North America in the ECHL. He led the league in 2001-02 with 70 assists and 102 points for Pensacola, helping the Ice Pilots return to the Kelly Cup Playoffs, and being named First Team All-ECHL. Dumont was voted as a starter for the Southern Conference in the 2002 ECHL All-Star Game where he won the fastest skater competition. He returned to Pensacola in 2002-03 and led the team with 51 assists while ranking second in scoring with 71 points.

The 32-year-old Dumont began his professional career in the ECHL in 1994-95 scoring 58 points (25g-33a) in 62 regular season games and two points (1g-1a) in three postseason games with the Wheeling Thunderbirds. He also scored a goal in five regular season games with Tallahassee of the ECHL and played two games with Syracuse of the American Hockey League. He returned to Wheeling in 1995-96 and had 63 points (24g-39a) in 66 regular season games and three points (0g-3a) in six postseason games.

In 1996-97 with Louisiana, Dumont scored 87 points (42g-45a) in 64 regular season games and helped the IceGators advance to the Kelly Cup Finals with 17 points (6g-11a) in 17 playoff games. He scored 79 points (31g-48a) in 66 regular season games with Louisiana in 1997-98 and helped the IceGators advance to the Southern Conference Finals with 11 points (6g-5a) in 12 postseason games while also scoring two points (0g-2a) in five games with Manitoba of the International Hockey League.

The 5-10 and 180-pound Dumont opened 1999-2000 with the Ayr Scottish Eagles in the British Super League scoring five points (1g-4a) in 14 games. He returned to North America and Augusta in the ECHL where he scored 63 points (26g-37a) in 60 regular season games and helped the Lynx reach the Southern Conference Semifinals scoring seven points (2g-5a) in 12 playoff games. He returned to Augusta in 2000-01 and scored 72 points (25g-47a) in 60 regular season games and five points (1g-4a) in three playoff games while also playing three games with Lowell of the American Hockey League.
