Las Vegas Wranglers News Release
Stockton, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder used four third period goals to take down the Las Vegas Wranglers 6-1 on Saturday night at Stockton Arena. The game marked just the second time the two foes have met this year, splitting the season series 1-1. Vegas goaltender Mitch O'Keefe made 25 saves in the loss, his third start in the last four games.
The Thunder would draw first blood 15:34 into the opening period as Ryan Hayes (16) put Stockton on top 1-0 with assists from Corey Trivino (32) and Adam Brace (20). Stockton would double their lead just 45 seconds later as Andrew Clark (14) gave the Thunder a 2-0 advantage with assists from Jeremy Langlois (41) and Joey Martin (44).
Wranglers' defenseman Charlie Cook would cut the Thunder lead in half just 2:29 into the second period, as he scored his fifth of the year, a power-play goal, assisted by Greg Coburn (14) and Carlo Finucci (27). Trailing 2-1, Las Vegas would continue to apply the pressure all period long, outshooting Stockton 11-2 in the second frame alone.
Early in the third period the Thunder would begin to take control, making it a 3-1 game on the strength of Matt Bergland's 13th goal of the season, assisted by Scott Langdon (7) and Clark (15). With 9:24 to go in the game, Langlois would extend the Stockton lead to 4-1 with his 19th goal of the season, assisted by Ryan Constant (28). In the last four minutes of play, Trivino and Bergland would each add an unassisted score to extend the Thunder advantage to 6-1.
With just one more game remaining for Las Vegas in the 2013-14 season, the Wranglers will now make their way over to Bakersfield, taking on the Condors in their regular season finale on Sunday, Apr. 13. After that, the first round of the ECHL Kelly Cup Playoffs begins, with the Las Vegas Wranglers taking on the Alaska Aces starting on Friday, April 17 in Anchorage. After games one (4/18) and two (4/19) are concluded, the teams will make their way back to Las Vegas for games three through five on Wednesday, April 23, Friday April 25 and if necessary, Saturday, April 26.
