ESTERO, FL - The Florida Everblades used six different goal scorers to defeat the Greenville Road Warriors 6-1 in the regular season finale on Saturday night at Germain Arena.
Greenville took advantage of a slow start by the 'Blades in the first couple of minutes of the game, and grabbed the lead at the 1:08 mark. Andrew Rowe centered a pass in the slot to Josh Nicholls who fired a shot past the glove of Florida goaltender Andy Iles.
Nearly three minutes later, the Everblades countered on a goal by Stefan Dello Rovere who flipped a rebound at the top of the crease past Greenville netminder Jason Missiaen.
Halfway through the opening period Florida grabbed the lead on a goal by Philip-Michael Devos. Devos picked up the puck on a Greenville turnover in the slot and snapped a shot past Missiaen for the go-ahead marker.
The Everblades tacked on more goal before the end of the opening period while killing off a penalty. Moments after being denied by Missiaen on a breakaway chance, Evan Bloodoff got a second chance on a breakaway, and slipped a backhanded shot around Missiaen to put the 'Blades on top by a 3-1 count after 20 minutes played.
The lone goal in the second period belonged to Florida, when Geoff Walker ripped home a pass from Devos to extend the lead to 4-1. The goal was Walker's fourth in the last two games.
In the third, Florida continued to pile it on at 5:54 of the third when Kyle Bonis netted his 25^th goal of the season on a breakaway.
Later in the period Bonis assisted on a goal by Brandon MacLean at 14:07. Bonis fielded the puck at his own blue line and recognized MacLean racing in behind the defense on the far wing. Bonis lobbed the puck over the heads of everyone, and the puck landed right in front of a charging MacLean at the top of the crease. MacLean managed to settle the puck down, and stuffed it past Missiaen's left pad for the 'Blades sixth goal.
MacLean's who will finish the season as the Everblades' scoring leader, and team MVP with 63 points, scored the goal which capped off a streak of six unanswered for Florida en route to a the 6-1 victory.
Andy Iles was one again impressive in net, stopping 32 of 33 shots faced for his third consecutive win. Missiaen takes the loss allowing six goals on 37 shots faced.
The Everblades conclude the regular season with a record of 37-27-3-5 (82pts), and fall just shy of reaching the postseason, finishing 9^th in the conference. It is the first time in the team's 16-year history, the 'Blades failed to reach the postseason.
The Everblades thank all of their fans, sponsors, and businesses across the region for all of their support during the season.
