Alaska Aces News Release
LOVELAND, Colo. - Alex Hudson's game winning goal with 31.9 seconds left in regulation helped the Colorado Eagles sneak by the Alaska Aces (45-19-7, 97 points), 3-2 before a sellout crowd of 5,289 at Budweiser Events Center on Saturday.
In a game that had no meaning for the Aces in the standings, they finished 6-2-2 on the 10-game road trip and earned multi point games from Peter Sivak, Andy Taranto and Evan Trupp. Goaltender Aaron Crandall had 27 saves in his regular season finale.
Taranto opened the scoring at 4:28 of the first period on a wrist shot from the left circle after goaltender Dustin Butler stopped Peter Sivak's drive to the net from the wing.
Sivak's 31st goal of the season, from the right circle, put the Aces ahead 2-0 at 1:11 of the second period. But Colorado responded with a pair of goals in 43 seconds, starting with Daniel Johnston's wrister from the right circle for a power play goal.
Jason Beatty then hammered a one-timer from Alex Hudson past Aaron Crandall at 14:38 to tie the game, 2-2.
With the Aces limiting the Eagles chances on seven shots in the third period, it was a bouncer to the slot that victimized Alaska's bid for overtime in the final minute. Braden Birch fired a shot from the right wing that caromed off traffic and onto Hudson's tape, who quickly fired a wrister past Crandall from between the circles.
Butler earned the win on 14 saves.
