Las Vegas Wranglers News Release
Las Vegas - The Las Vegas Wranglers fell 4-0 to the Utah Grizzlies this afternoon, wrapping up a stretch of seven games in 10 days with a 3-4-0 record and a new season record for most penalty minutes in a game.
Utah's first goal of the game came just 6:50 into the contest off the stick of center Adam Estoclet. The 1-0 lead carried over into the second, when almost exactly 20 minutes later at the 6:46 mark, Grizzlies center Mitch Wahl scored on a power play to put his team up 2-0.
Almost nine minutes into the third, Grizzlies forward Kory Falite put the Wranglers in a three-goal hole. With six minutes left in regulation, a hit on Grizzlies forward Riley Armstrong from Wranglers left wing Adam Huxley sent the game spiraling, with a total of 12 penalties assessed and 81 minutes doled out after sticks were tossed over Utah's bench and six game misconducts were issued. Utah then went on a 5-on-3 power play and tallied a final goal from defenseman Jimmy Martin to win 4-0, but not before another 22 penalty minutes were handed out in the final four minutes.
Las Vegas collected a total of 69 penalty minutes in the loss, surpassing the previous season record of 58, recorded in a game against the Alaska Aces on Nov. 10. Utah received a total of 92 penalty minutes this afternoon.
The two teams meet again this weekend on Friday, Jan. 11, and Saturday, Jan. 12, as the Wranglers hit the road to Utah. This afternoon's full box score can be found here .
