Ontario evened the score in the second period on a power play. Colton Yellow Horn extended his ECHL goal scoring lead with his 24th of the year at 6:08 from the bottom of the right circle. During a fight late in the second period, Clackson squared off against Ontario's Chris Cloud, and in the bout Cloud head-butted Clackson. He received a major, match penalty and was ejected. The Aces could not capitalize on the ensuing major power play and the game went into the third period tied 1-1.
After a scoreless 18 minutes of the third period, the Reign received a late two-minute, five-on-three power play for the final 1:19 of regulation and the first 41 seconds of overtime. The Aces killed off the penalty to get to overtime, and then killed the remaining penalty time in the extra session. Ontario received one more power play in the final seconds of OT, but could not convert. The game went to a marathon shootout session with both teams converting in the second, fourth, sixth, and eighth rounds. In the ninth round of the shootout, Ontario's Brodie Sheehan scored and Alaska's Clackson was stopped giving the Reign the 2-1 win.
Mark Guggenberger (14-5-1) suffered the shootout loss, making 22 saves on 23 shots and stopping four of nine in the shootout. J.F. Berube (11-3-2) made 17 saves on 18 shots, and stopped five of nine shooters to earn the win. The Aces went 0-3 on the power play and the Reign were 1-7.
