After splitting the first two games of their six-game road trip, the Solar Bears will play the Komets for the final time during the regular season. The Solar Bears and Komets played three-in-a-row against each other at the Amway Center in Orlando from December 7 through December 9, resulting a 5-4 shootout win for Fort Wayne on the 7th, a 3-0 shutout win for Fort Wayne on the 8th, and a 6-2 victory for the Solar Bears on the 9th. Orlando began their road trip in Evansville on Friday with 5-1 loss to the IceMen, but rallied last night with a 39 save performance from John Curry to defeat the Toledo Walleye 4-3 in a shootout. The Komets are also playing their third game in three days, starting the weekend off with a 4-2 loss to Cincinnati at home before defeating the Cyclones in Cincinnati by a 5-4 score last night.

With their 4-3 shootout win last night, the Solar Bears improved to 13-4-0-0 when allowing three or fewer goals... G John Curry set a Solar Bears season high for the most saves in a single period when he stopped 22 shots in the first period last night... C Ryan Cruthers is one goal shy of his 100th professional goal... The Solar Bears have won five of their last seven games... Orlando announced on Thursday that they intend to inform the league at the league mid-season meetings of their intentions to place a bid to host the 2015 All-Star Game. The meetings will be held in Loveland, Colorado, during the All-Star break later this month... LW Nick Petersen was named to the ECHL All-Star Team on Thursday, making him the first Solar Bear to be selected as an ECHL All-Star... D Sean Lorenz remains on reserve... F Ryan Ginand and LW Chris Lawrence are currently on the 21-day IR, both have resumed skating but neither player made the trip... D Corbin Baldwin is currently on the 21-day IR... G Mike Brodeur remains on the 21-day IR but has resumed skating drills... D Josh Caron, D Kyle Medvec, F Rob Mignardi, and LW Nick Petersen are currently recalled to the Houston Aeros. Medvec scored an overtime game-winning goal for Houston on December 26, while LW Nick Petersen scored the game-winning goal for Houston last night... F Olivier Fortier is currently recalled to the Hamilton Bulldogs.
Komets Notes:
RW Brandon Marino is fourth in the ECHL with 41 points. He is third in the league with 30 assists... D Daniel Maggio is fourth in the ECHL with 121 penalty minutes (PIM)... D Tyler Butler is fourth among defensemen with 89 shots on goal... The Komets are 11-3-1 when scoring the game's first goal... Fort Wayne is 23rd on the power play at 13.8 percent (17-for-123) and 15th on the penalty kill at 80.9 percent (144-for-178)... RW Brandon Marino leads the Komets with 30 assists and 41 points... RW Thomas Beauregard leads the Komets with 15 goals.
