Aberdeen IronBirds News Release

Aberdeen, MD- The Aberdeen IronBirds fell behind 1-0 after the top of the first, but put up three runs in the bottom of the first, waited out a rain delay, and went on to beat the Brooklyn Cyclones tonight by a score of 5-2.

The first three batters of the game reached base for Brooklyn, and Adrian Abreu came around to score on a Jhoan Urena single to left field off of starter Pat Connaughton.

The IronBirds responded in the bottom of the first as Jay Gonzalez led off with a bunt single. He advanced to third on the play as Casey Meisner's throw to first went up the right field line. He came around to score when Justin Viele bounced to short. Viele was safe at first, as Amed Rosario bobbled the ball. Austin Anderson followed that with a ground rule double to right center field. With runners on second and third, Alex Murphy collected his third RBI single of the series, scoring Viele, and it gave the IronBirds a 2-1 lead. Two batters later, Riley Palmer placed a bunt past the pitcher's mound, and it allowed Anderson to score, giving the hosts a 3-1 lead.

The rains came and interrupted play for two hours and sixteen minutes, and it would knock both starters out of the game.

Brooklyn got a run in the top of the third off of reliever Max Schuh, who was making his professional debut, making it 3-2 Aberdeen.

The IronBirds got another run in the fourth. Jamill Moquete reached on an error, and scored on an Oswill Lartiguez triple. It was 4-2 Aberdeen.

Aberdeen scored another run in the seventh, as Lartiguez laced another triple to right. He scored when Viele hit a chopper to short, giving the IronBirds a 5-2 lead.

Lartiguez became the fourth IronBirds' player to hit two triples in the game, and the first since Kipp Schutz did it on July 5, 2010 against the Lowell Spinners.

Aberdeen welcomes the Connecticut Tigers to Ripken Stadium for three games beginning tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m.
